Day 1 - Slight Delay - Oh Joy.

Well, as expected, we ran into out first issue with the kitchen remodel - the floor. When the Tile guy came over it turns out it would work for our benefit if we pulled up the existing floor (linoleum and particle board) to prevent uneven areas and slopes in the kitchen. Also, this will make it easier to fit the dishwasher back in its home and with closing our back deck door. If we did not pull this up - the dishwasher couldn't have come out without removing the new tile and the backdoor would not close unless we spent some money fixing the problem. The original plan was to have the guys put backer board on top of the existing linoleum and put the slate on top of that. This would raise the floor quite a bit - enough to make a difference (and not in a good way)

So, next up would be the cost to remove the floor - lets just say it was enough that Trey is doing it himself. All by himself. Of course I would help if I could - but I would more or less be in the way and have absolutely no idea what I am doing... So, I am moral support - bringing him lunch and Gatorade and bottles of water. Oh, and Beef Jerky. :)

Bless his heart - how did I get this lucky? He is a Godsend, working his butt off ripping up the entire floor by himself. He even stepped on a little nail :( He's okay - he put hydrogen on it, but still. Plus, he has to go to work tonight at 9:30 pm, and won't get hardly any sleep. He is such a trooper and I am so proud of him!!

So, that is where we are right now. Trey has made great progress and I think he should be done by 4-5 pm today. Then, tomorrow the Tile guys will come bright and early to start the job.

Crossing fingers nothing else sneaks up on us and everything else goes smoothly!!! :)
